A plastic ocean

Last week me and my parents whatched a movie on netflix. The movie was A Plastic Oceans and is PG it was made in 2016. This Movie is a great movie to whatch with your family or friends or even alone. Basically in this movie they talk about plastic and how it affect animals. Animals on land but mostly in the sea. It shows different rubbish Islands and how bad it is for the envoiremnt. This article’s reserach is from the movie A Plastic Ocean.

Plastic, how it affects animals

You see animals , well some arent dumb to eat a big pile of pringles or a packet after sweets. The problem is plastic dissolves. For an example if we put a glass in the ocean we often then see these green shiny rocks on shore. Those rocks/glass we see arent sharp but kind of soft. Thereason for that is because it has been in the water for so long it shrunk and became more rounder/softer less edges. It is kind of like that with plastic, if wethrough away a plastic bottle and that bttle is in the sea for a few yeasr the result is its gonna be become tiny microplastics.

Unlike some other kinds of waste, plastic doesn’t decompose. That means plastic can stick around indefinitely, wreaking havoc on marine ecosystems. Some plastics float once they enter the ocean, though not all do. As the plastic is tossed around, much of it breaks into tiny pieces, called microplastics like i said before.

Why do Sea Creatures east plastic?

Plastic fragments in the ocean quickly become covered in algae, making them smell like food to small fish. Tiny floating pieces of plastic waste may harm the health of sea creatures that eat them.

A different reason why seal animals eat plastic is that some sharsk eat jeelyfish and a plastic bag is very much alike to a jelliyfish therefore the shark wont know thats its a plastic bag and just eat it. You might thinkn that oh well thats fine that their eating nothings gonna happne but no. If fish eat plastic and then we eat fish means we also probably have some plastic in side of us.

Also the reason why sea animals die from plastic is like lets use a seagull or any bird for a example. If a bird/seagle eat plastic there stomach feels full and they dont want to et anything. But that is very bad for the bird because then its starving but it thinks it already ate something but really plastic doesnt have the nurtitions needed.

What are Rubbish Islands?

The amount of debris in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch accumulates because much of it is not biodegradable. For many people, the idea of a “garbage patch” conjures up images of an island of trash floating on the ocean. In reality, these patches are almost entirely made up of tiny bits of plastic, called microplastics.
