A Holiday Without Parents

A Holiday Without Parents

The Beginning

This years holidays weren’t a holiday like all the rest. They were different. Different because of Covid, and different because they were holidays without my parents. Let my explain, this year we planned to go by car to Poland as we did last year with my dog. But because of Brexit and a few new Covid rules we sadly had to give up on that idea. I go to Poland for the summer holidays every year and the reason for that is all my family is there. My parents and I are the only part of the family who live in Ireland , of course not all my family lives in Poland but most. Godmother , uncle and cousins live in Czech Republic for an example. My granny’s sister also doesn’t live in Poland but Germany. But other than that the rest of my family lives in Poland.

As I already said because of the new Covid rules and Brexit we had to cancel our plans and make new ones. So the new plan was that for the first part of the holidays i would be with my dad and the next half i would be my with my mom.So it would look like this first my dad and i would fly to Poland and my mom would stay with my dog and then the next half my dad would go home to mind the dog and my mom would fly to Poland. Then me and my mom would go back together.

The reason that both my parents couldn’t be with me at the same time was that someone needed to take care of the dog. He is 12 years old after all and has some heart problems so we wanted someone to take care of which would be one of my parents.

Once I got there

Once I was in Poland for a while the time came for Camp. In Ireland there a lot of camps but in their camps you don’t sleep. You just stay there for most of the day. But the Camp I went to which is in Poland you sleep there for a certain amount of days alone without your parents. Of course not completely alone, its like school you have kind of like teachers that take care of you and there’s each teacher for each group.

See we are divided in to different groups and each teacher/carer is responsible for one of each. In each room there can be from 3 to 5 people. I was in a room of 4 my cousins (2) a girl, and I. At the time we were kind of nervous we were going to be with a random girl that was gonna be mean but she turned out really funny and kind.

In total there was a amount of 11 rooms and in each rooms there was either 3,4 or 5 beds. This camp was for boys and girl but there was around 20 or 30 girls I think and only 12 boys. The ages were from 9 to 16 i’m pretty sure although it may change overtime. Most of the kids at camp were either 10 or 12 though. The girl in our room was 10 but she was really fun.

The trip

The trip to the camp took about 5 hours but luckily and surprisingly it wasn’t that exhausting! I sat next to my cousins friend and she turned out really cool. My cousins were behind us and we had a blast. The carers weren’t that strict so it was going pretty well. Once we arrived we were so excited because first of all the rooms had balcony’s and second of all there was a huge pool like what else could you ask for!

Once we unloaded our luggage we ran to our rooms. But sadly we found out we were right next to our carers. That meant we would have to be quiet all the time. This was kind of annoying but besides from that it was pretty fun. We unpacked everything and both my cousins picked the normal beds so i had to get the bunk even though they were sisters which was frustrating but then it turned out really good because it was a great view to the TV.

Kayaking!

The First day There

On the first day we just unpacked and the carers said all the rules but later on was one of the best parts we went down to the beach. And when I tell the sand was more softer than the clouds i’m telling you. It was so nice there was a nice little breeze which was helpful because it was hot as heck. The view was amazing. But even better we got to go into the water. The rules were ten people would gather around the carers and then do 10 squats for some weird reason and then we got to go in but only for 5 minutes because others wanted a turn. but after them we could go again. Once everyone was dry after the beach we watched the sunset which was my highlight of the day. It was just amazing not enough words to describe how beautiful it was.

Playing rounders!

At the End

Once it started to get darker we headed back to our rooms and then the carers say to get ready because we are going to town! This was great news so we could explore our surroundings.

We did that every night from then on for 10 days. A few activities we did within those 10 days were we got split in to groups and we made sand structures, my group made a anchor it turned out really cool and we got 2 place! Some other activities were like playing normal volleyball and also balloon volleyball which was super fun. We also had a disco which was a blast.

And we went kayaking and went to the carnival which were the two biggest events. The kayaking was pretty funny and entertaining I paired up with one of my cousins (Rosalie) and we started rowing but not for long because we ended up in bushes every 5 seconds. In fact we didn’t even start like everyone else we did 7 huge circles before hand but then we kept crashing into bushes but in the end we rowed pretty good. At the carnival I went on like a huge ride spin hammer, the first time I went on it i felt really bad and if I was going to faint. But after that i went 5 times in a row and then 2 times in a row. I felt really bad but it was worth it and really exciting in the end.

Overall I had a really fun time and so much recommend this was a great experience. I also think it is worth a try to do something similar like I did aka. go on a camp with your friends but without your parents.
