Facts About St. Patrick

Patrick’s Life

St Patricks Day is a very special event in Ireland celebrated on the 17 of March. Patrick was born in Scotland but a lot of people think he was born in Ireland. He is believed to have died on March 17, around 460 A.D.

Patrick actually didn’t want to Ireland he was brought by Irish raiders. The Irish raiders enslaved and held St Patrick captive for six years. After those six years, Patrick escaped captivity. He escaped because he heard a voice urging him to travel to a distant port where a ship would be waiting for him to travel back to Britian. On his way back to Britain, Patrick was captured again and spent 60 days in captivity in Tours, France.

Patrick eventually got out of captivity and heard a voice telling him to become a priest and go back to Ireland. Before he came back to Ireland he studied in France. Once he finished his study he went to Ireland and told people all about God because he belived in him. He explained the Holy Trinity by shamrocks. He did that by saying that the three leafs represent: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

St Patrick’s day parade

On St Patricks Day in Ireland you dress up in green ,funky outifts and go to your nearby town . Once you have gotten to your town a parade starts. In the parade there are acrobats, dancers, karates, trucks and lots more. Usuallly primary schools organise a thing where you can dress in your school uniform and go through the town road with every one on a platform. I went to a parade in Cork in 2019 and there were people with long wooden legs. A lot of the time there are football teams, basketball teams and hurley teams , there are also different people dressed up as Leprechauns and different statues are also in the parade.
